In depth review of Whistler CR85 Laser / Radar Detector
First of all, the design of the radar is quite pretty for a radar detector. Although quite heavy, as it weighs 13.44 ounces, when normally, radar detectors do not weigh more than 10 ounces, sometimes even less. The display is a blue OLED one that serves as a visual warning, showing the symbol of the exact type of alert detected, the mode and the strength of the signal when the radar detector receives the electromagnetic waves given off by the speed guns used by the police. The display also has an organic light-emitting diode which means that it is easy on the eyes both during the day and during the night. The overall aspect of the radar detector is very attractive, elegant and it doesn’t stand out in the light due to the black overall.
As not everything can be good, there is a downside for this particular radar detector. Naturally, when compared to a much more expensive radar, such as the Valentine One or others above $500, it can’t perform as well, but for the low price of $140, it is at least worth a try. Another downside is that this radar detector has different prices depending on the country where it is sold in. For example, while in the US it costs a mere $140, in the UK it can go up to $300. However, if money is not an issue, the Whistler CR85 should definitely be on the list of the best radar detectors available.

Cheaper in the US, more expensive in other countries
According to the reviews of customers from all over the world who have purchased and used the Whistler CR85, the prices differ depending on the country. This is quite understandable, considering the fact that Whistler has to first ship the radar detectors to the country where they would be sold and possibly pay taxes to the government, but it can be quite a downside for those that do not live in the US. According to the reviews, this is the only bad thing people can state about the radar detector, because of other than this, the CR85 behaves very perfectly for its price.
The good news now!
As mentioned beforehand, the design and display of the Whistler Cr85 is very attractive, useful and elegant. When it comes to its abilities to detect the electromagnetic waves coming from the various speed guns the police uses, it does a great job and on top of being able to detect the usual radar bands the police uses to catch drivers off guard, which are the X band, K band and Ka-SuperWide band, the CR85 is able to detect the speed lasers used by the police by detecting the PPS or Pulse Per Second sent off by these devices.
The warnings are both audio and visual and the audio ones include human voice alerts depending on the type of threat the radar detected. The radar also provides a 360 degrees coverage, which means that it is able to detect threats coming up ahead and alert the driver when passing an alert. The 3 city modes ensure that the radar detector will send off warnings only for the real threats, while the false ones are ignored.
